Mariner Sails offers private, on-the-water windsurfing
lessons in late April or early May, depending on the water
and air temperature. Sessions are approximately two hours
long and are typically held at either Lake Grapevine or Lake
Ray Hubbard. Windsurfing equipment is provided. Students
must provide water shoes (to protect your feet from beach
hazards), sunscreen and drinking water.

Since our lessons are private, we can adapt them to your
particular windsurfing needs from basic through early
intermediate techniques. Please feel free to let us know if
you have any specific needs in areas like rigging, sail
handling, tacking, jibing, beach starting, transportation,
basic harness use and set-up, or anything else and we’ll be
happy to accommodate you.
Cost
Starting from $150 for one person for two hours of
Instruction. Semi-private small group sessions are available
by quote. Reservations are required one week in advance and
are made as scheduling permits. Availability is limited and
pre-payment is required.
Equipment
The right tools always make a job easier. Our school
equipment is designed to make learning to windsurf easy,
safe and fun. Our state-of-the-art fleet of school boards
ensure our instructors are able to match you up with the
right equipment for your current skill level and sailing
conditions.
Weather
On-the-water sessions are weather dependant. We can
compensate for wind conditions with sail sizing in many
cases, but there is always a chance Mother Nature will not
cooperate. In these situations our instructors, at their
sole discretion, will weigh the weather conditions against
the requirements for the session and determine whether a
reschedule is necessary.
Youth Windsurfing
Give your child the gift of a sport that's exciting, safe
and fun to grow with. We have school equipment designed just
for kids too !!
Student Requirements
The desire to Windsurf is our first requirement. Bring an
open mind and the desire to learn and you’ll be Windsurfing
in no time. The physical requirements are few. You will be
required to wear a life vest (which we can provide) and must
be able to swim 25 yards and tread water for 5 minutes in
more than 6 feet of water without a PFD. Strength is not an
issue, windsurfing is more finesse and technique than brute
strength. You are required to notify us of any Medical or
Physical condition that may put you or other students at
risk during your lessons. Protective
footgear you don’t mind getting wet is a must.
Windsurfing itself is not hard on your feet, but sharp or
dangerous objects on the beach or underwater can cause
injury. Bring an appropriate swim suit and don’t forget your
sunscreen and water. We’ll provide the rest.
