Free "Learn to Sail" Series. 3 nights of classroom instruction and 2 sessions "on the water."

              Join Us for Hobie University 2018

                                                     

Hobie University 2018 is a FREE event and will include:

  • 3 Nights of classroom instruction
  • 2 "On the Water" sessions

Three Classroom sessions will cover basic sailing Introductions, nomenclature, equipment, Upwind sailing & tacking, Downwind gybing Basic Right of Way Rules, Righting the boat and a basic introduction to Racing Rules.

Two "on the water" experiences will give you the opportunity to put into practice the things you have learned in the Classroom sessions and actually GO SAILING!

Boats are not required for the classroom sessions and prospective boat owners are welcome to share in the use of our limited quantity of volunteer owned boats.

Session 1
Tuesday, April 3rd (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.)
Introductions, nomenclature, equipment, basic sailing

Session 2
Tuesday, April 10th (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.) Upwind sailing & tacking, Downwind sailing & gybing Basic Right of Way Rules
Righting the boat

Session 3
Saturday, April 14th (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
At Hobie Point (Lake Park) Lake Lewisville Boat inspection and rigging
Instruction, demos, practice sailing

Session 4
Tuesday, April 24th (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.) Wrap up Q & A on previous ‘on the water’ experience Hobie Class Association regatta program
Introduction to Racing Rules of Sailing

Session 5 
Sunday, April 29th (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
At Hobie Point (Lake Park) Lake Lewisville Boat setup and inspection
Instruction, practice sailing

Hobie University is FREE and pre-registration is not required.  Just show up for any of the free sessions.

NOTE:  Boat not required for classroom sessions. Recommended for ‘on the water’ but prospective boat owners are welcome!
